Your product warranty is against SOFARSOLAR, the manufacturer — a publicly listed company with audited accounts and regulated disclosure — rather than against a reseller whose ABN might be younger than the product. Australia has a long history of solar retailers taking deposits and closing. That distinction is the whole point.
Periods run from the installation date, provided the system is registered. Extended terms are available on some products through your installer. The controlling document is the warranty statement supplied with your product, not this page.
Keeping the cover intact
- Register the system at commissioning, so cover runs from day one rather than from the day something fails.
- Have the work done by an accredited installer, with the electrical work by a licensed electrician.
- Keep the invoice and the commissioning record — they are what establishes the installation date.
- Leave the monitoring connected. It is how a fault gets seen, and how a claim gets diagnosed without a callout.
- Report a problem when it starts. Running a faulty unit for months rarely improves the outcome.
What it does not cover
A product warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship under normal operating conditions. It is not an insurance policy, and it will not cover:
- Damage from installation that departs from the manufacturer’s procedure
- Unauthorised modification or repair
- Conditions outside the product’s rated environmental limits
- Damage from lightning, flood, fire, vermin or physical impact
- Faults in equipment supplied by someone else and connected to ours
Damage caused by the installation itself is the installer’s responsibility rather than the manufacturer’s — which is worth knowing before the argument, not during it.
Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure, and to compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have goods repaired or replaced if they fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure is not a major one.
Nothing in the manufacturer’s warranty limits any of that. The warranty is an addition to those rights, not a substitute for them, and any company that tells you otherwise is worth walking away from.
Not assessed in 24 hours — authorised, with a replacement on its way from a warehouse on the mainland. The week of waiting is what a warranty claim actually costs you, and that is the part we are trying to remove.
