This policy explains what personal information Soluminous Pty Ltd collects, why we collect it, who we give it to, and what you can do about it. We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.

1. Who this policy applies to

“Soluminous”, “we”, “us” and “our” mean Soluminous Pty Ltd, an Australian company based in Sydney, New South Wales. This policy covers information we collect through soluminous.au, by phone or email, through a quote or enquiry, and in the course of supplying products and warranty support. It applies to homeowners, business customers, installers holding trade accounts, and anyone else who contacts us.

2. What we collect

We collect only what we need to answer you, quote accurately, and support the product afterwards. Depending on why you contacted us, that may include:

  • Your name, email address, phone number and postal or site address
  • Property details relevant to a system design — roof orientation and condition, shading, switchboard and metering arrangements
  • Energy information you choose to give us, such as a recent bill, your tariff, or interval data from your meter
  • For trade accounts: business name, ABN, electrical licence and accreditation details, and trading references
  • Product and service records — serial numbers, installation dates, warranty claims and support correspondence
  • System performance data from monitored equipment, where a system has been registered to monitoring
  • Technical information collected automatically when you visit the site, including IP address, browser type, pages viewed and referring page

We do not seek sensitive information as defined in the Privacy Act, and we ask that you do not send it to us. If you would prefer to deal with us anonymously or under a pseudonym you may do so, though we may not be able to give you a quote or process a warranty claim without identifying details.

3. Why we collect it

  • To respond to your enquiry and prepare a design or quote
  • To supply, deliver and install products, and to arrange installation with an accredited installer
  • To submit grid connection applications and STC paperwork on your behalf
  • To register warranties, process claims and dispatch replacement hardware
  • To provide technical support and diagnose faults
  • To assess and administer trade account applications
  • To meet our obligations under Australian consumer, electrical safety and tax law
  • To improve the website and understand which pages are useful

We may send you information about products or support relevant to a system you own. You can opt out of that at any time using the unsubscribe link or by emailing us, and it will not affect your warranty or your support.

4. Who we disclose it to

We do not sell personal information. We disclose it only where it is necessary for the purpose you gave it to us, including to:

  • The accredited installer or electrical contractor carrying out work at your property
  • SOFARSOLAR, as manufacturer, where a warranty claim or technical escalation requires it
  • Your electricity distributor and retailer, for grid connection and metering
  • The Clean Energy Regulator and agents involved in creating and assigning Small-scale Technology Certificates
  • Freight, logistics and payment providers engaged to deliver goods or process transactions
  • IT, hosting, email and analytics providers who process data on our behalf under contract
  • A third-party lender, only where you have asked to be referred for finance
  • Anyone else where you have consented, or where the law requires it

Some of these providers, including the manufacturer and certain cloud services, are located outside Australia. Where we disclose information overseas we take reasonable steps to ensure the recipient handles it consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.

5. Monitoring data

Where a system is registered to the monitoring platform, it reports operating data such as generation, consumption, battery state and fault history. We use that to diagnose faults, support warranty claims and improve the product. Consumption data can reveal patterns about a household, so we treat it as personal information and disclose it only as described in this policy. You may ask us to disconnect a system from monitoring, though doing so limits our ability to detect a fault before you do.

6. Cookies and analytics

This website uses cookies and similar technologies to remember your preferences and to understand, in aggregate, how the site is used. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; parts of the site may not work as intended if you do. We do not use them to build advertising profiles of individuals.

7. Security and retention

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, loss, and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure, including access controls, encryption in transit and vetting of the providers we use. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee the security of information transmitted over the internet. We keep information for as long as it is needed for the purpose it was collected and for as long as the law requires — warranty and installation records, for example, are retained for the life of the warranty and a reasonable period afterwards. When it is no longer needed we destroy or de-identify it. If we become aware of a data breach likely to cause serious harm, we will notify affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as required by the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.

8. Accessing and correcting your information

You may ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct anything that is wrong or out of date. Email privacy@soluminous.au and we will respond within a reasonable period, ordinarily within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity first. If we refuse access or correction we will tell you why in writing, and how to complain about that decision.

9. Complaints

If you think we have mishandled your personal information, email privacy@soluminous.au with the details. We will acknowledge your complaint and investigate it. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can refer the matter to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as our business or the law changes. The current version is always the one published on this page, and the date below tells you when it last changed.
